Wei Jingsheng Foundation Increases the 1st Annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award" to $5,000 and Calls for Matching Donations
The Wei Jingsheng Foundation is continuing to receive more nominations for the 1st Annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award." We ask our friends and readers to keep this participation. So far, we have received very good nominations. Indeed, these people who have worked for Chinese democracy and human rights causes and even made sacrifices deserve our salute and respect to at least to be nominated for this award.
This annual award is established under the agreement of Mr. Wei Jingsheng himself, at the request of an anonymous donor. The award date shall be on December 5, the date of publication of the well-known article "The 5th Modernization - Chinese Democracy", by Mr. Wei Jingsheng in 1978, a landmark date for the Chinese democracy process. This award is extremely unique with the main aim to encourage and support our Chinese democracy advocators inside China. For these of you who are going to make a nomination, please be aware that the nomination date is set at midnight of November 25, 2005, Eastern Daylight Time of USA.
In addition, we have exciting news. With the kindness and support of a long-time friend and supporter of Chinese democracy, the Foundation has received a pledge of $2,000.00 dollars on the condition of a matching donations of another $2,000.00. This donation likely to increase the 1st annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award" greatly from $1,000 to $5,000.
Hereby, sincerely and urgently, the Wei Jingsheng Foundation is appealing to all its friends and supporters to pledge this needed matching $2,000.00 US dollars. In particular, we wish our mainland Chinese friends at Overseas could pitch in financially as well.
In the past, this foundation has been operated mainly by volunteers who care about Chinese democracy and human rights. A lack of funding, time, and professional staff have always been a dilemma in our effort to push for the progress we want to make in China. The Foundation has always been short of funding, not to mention this $2,000.00 dollars. Nevertheless, with the enthusiastic responses we have received, some directly from China, we believe that $5,000 award resulting from this $2,000 matching fund would indeed make a major impact and an even better moral boost to our fellows in China. So your contribution to make it possible is extremely important and valuable as well.
Hereby, we would like to express our gratitude to our friend who provided this $2,000.00 seed money, as well as to our potential donors who would like to provide even a portion of this matching fund. Even more, if you would like to simply make a donation to our foundation for general operating expenses, or other specific use, please also do so. 魏京生基金会第一届“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”奖金可望大幅度提高至五千美元并呼吁配对捐款
自魏京生基金会宣布征求"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"候选人的提名以来，我们得到了一些很好的获奖人选。该奖为年度奖。得奖对象将以支持与奖励在中国国内坚持中国民主运动的个人与团体为主。预定颁奖日为12月5日 -- 魏京生先生1978年发表的，享有盛名的文章“第五个现代化- 民主”的纪念日。第一届“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”提名截止日为2004年11月25日，美东时间午夜。
在此，我们请求朋友们和读者们继续参与这一活动。至今，这些人为中国民主和人权所做出的努力甚至是牺牲，实在值得我们的崇敬。他们获得提名至少是人们表达尊敬的一种方式。
另外，我们获得了令人振奋的消息。基金会获得了2000美元的捐助，这笔钱来自一个长期支持中国民运的朋友，条件是基金会必须获得等额的配对捐款，即在找到另外2000美元的奖金的条件下才能动用这2000美元。这样，魏京生基金会首度人权奖金将由原来的1000美元增加到5000美元。
