The Overseas
Chinese Democracy Coalition Presents a Briefing to the UN on the
Worsening Human
Rights Condition in China
On the afternoon
of April 11, 2005 during the 61st UN Human Rights Commission sessions, the
Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition presented a briefing on the worsening
human rights condition in China in the United Nations' Palais des Nations' room
XXVII in Geneva, Switzerland. The
briefing lasted for two hours. It
was sponsored by the Transnational Radical Party, and introduced by its
delegation leader, Ms. Marina Szikora.
The briefing was
moderated by Ms. HUANG Ciping, the Secretary-General of the Overseas Chinese
Democracy Coalition, with final remarks and statement made by Mr. WEI
Jingsheng, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition. Over a dozen Overseas Chinese Democracy
Coalition members attended the briefing in support of the others who gave the
presentations.
The highlights
of the briefing were the two leading witnesses on human rights abuse tragedies
conducted by the Chinese government.
One was Ms. XIA Ze, who spoke on behalf of the June 4 victims and
families. Ms. XIA Ze's cousin,
WANG Nan, was shot to death on June 4, 1989 while he was merely a teenage. Yet, after more than 15 years, the
Chinese government still continues its persecutions, while Chinese people are
still seeking justice.
The other
witness was Ms. FANG Xiaosheng.
Due to different political viewpoints, she was repeatedly sent to
prisons and even to psychic hospitals, despite being a French citizen. Putting people in psychic hospitals has
been a widespread practice of the Chinese government for use against religious
believers and political dissidents, including June 4 1989 democracy movement
supporters. However, unlike most
of the others who might be stuck in the psychic hospital forever, Ms. FANG was
one of the very few who came out and became able to tell of her experience
there.
Dr. ZHANG Yu,
director for the Writers in Prison Committee from the Independent Chinese Pen,
gave a theme talk on "China - a country having no free speech; a country
having no free press". Mr.
Enver Can, the vice president of the World Uyghur Congress, spoke of continued
violations of human rights and discrimination of the Uyghurs in China. Mr. ZHANG Jian, a student leader and
survivor of the June 4, 1989 massacre, presented horrific and graphic evidences
detailing Chinese persecution against religious believers and their families,
as well as cruelty against unborn and newborn children. Dr. CHEN Shizhong, detailed the
situation of many millions Chinese forced into internal displacement in China.
Several news
media, including TV, radio stations and newspapers reported this briefing. Radio Radicale of the Transnational
Party recorded the whole two hours long session. (Its website is: www.radicalparty.org.) Several people were interviewed
afterwards. Other handouts
including materials and booklets related to the Chinese government's
suppression of human rights and Chinese democratic progress were distributed to
the participants and audience as well.

中国独立作家笔会的张钰博士做有关中国缺乏言论与新闻自由的报告;
维吾尔世界大会的肯先生谈中共对维吾尔人民犯下的罪行;
