Earlier in
February, I was invited to Norway for a theme speech, as well as to be present
at an award ceremony. It was
organized by a student organization with student participants from all over the
world. One of the activities was to
give the "Student Peace Award" to the brave college students who
fought for human rights, democracy and peace. The purpose of the award was to encourage the young students
of the world to participate in the activities for human rights, democracy and
peace, to encourage the exchange between these students, to learn from each
other, to encourage each other, to educate more and better leaders for our
human race.
Besides the five
adult judges, all the members of this organization are students. They are replaced every other year,
which on one side gives more young people the opportunity of participation and
practice, on the other side gives them more opportunity for their capacity and
talents. Through this activity,
more youths can discover and educate their own potential earlier, with more
confidence in politics or social service.
Vice versa, the society also can discover these young talents earlier.
This is the way
that a society with fair competition should educate their future leaders. A democratic society has its democratic
ways. The fair competition
stimulates their youths to work upwards and fully utilize their capacity. Meanwhile, the democratic and fair competition
selection enables the society to select its best politicians and social
leaders. That is why the
democratic countries could do so much better than China. As a matter of fact, China, as well as
the dictatorial countries in the ancient times and other foreign countries, all
have the dilemma that they could not solve properly: how to select their
successors. When a government
chooses to formally and seriously consider installing duplicates of its current
leaders as successors, it has fallen into the category of a tyrannical
dictatorship. When HU Jintao was
named as the successor of JIANG Zemin, he has been put into the position of a
tyrant of a dictatorship to continue that dictatorship. Those people who propagandize the so
called “New Political Era of HU and Wen”, either are those who are cheated and
go on to cheat the rest, or are those who are employed to flatter in open or in
hiding.
As I met with
these young people who are full of confidence, I knew it was not an issue for a
democratic society to worry about this “who to succeed” issue. Besides that they are not quite mature,
these young people look just like politicians in operation. People will ask, given there is no
democratic and fair competition in China, when the dictatorial government
collapses, who will succeed? I
don’t think that we have to worry about that. In a dictatorial and non-democratic country, democratic
leaders could grow out their own ways – via their struggle against tyrannical
dictatorship.
This time, the
“Student Peace Prize” was awarded to a college student organization in Columbia
for its effort against tyrannical dictatorship. This organization used various ways inside and outside the
campus, openly encouraging students and average citizens to work against the
dictatorial government and against the vice of the society. I do not know enough detail on the
conditions inside the country of Columbia, thus I am unable to give a full
evaluation of their work. However,
as I was listening to the speech given by that student leader, I realized
something. This young lady was
able to give her speech as a mature politician, with confidence and
persuasion. She was able to carry
it very well. Sometimes she gave a
rational analysis, some times she was charged with emotion. Her half hour speech was not the
typical propaganda the opposition on the streets has to do, but more like a
political debate in the parliament.
I realized that this process of democratic struggle itself is indeed a
way to educate its future democratic leaders. As the opposition to a dictatorial government, we should not
just go to the streets and shout some slogans, but more try to get involved for
political operation. What these
young people did was not just in opposition, but also in fair competition, in
training of their own political capacity, in growing into political
leaders. A democratic system is
able to educate its own politicians, during its normal operation, under normal
circumstances. Yet, on the way to
democracy, democratic politicians could be born out of a dictatorial system as
well.
In recent years,
Chinese Communists and their allies in the Western world often like to use this
big subject to scare our people.
They claim that if the Chinese Communist government collapses, then no
one could manage China. This claim
is a total lie. China is a huge
country; however, just like our ancient words advice: administrating a country
as cooking a small meal, are all done by people. With some training and exercise, what we could not do? There are those people who have very
seriously advised: “Without the Communists in China, no one could take care of
this country of 1.3 billion people.”
However, I see the hope from this student award ceremony. I believe that these young people who
are educated via their struggle against dictatorship could take care of their
countries just like democratic countries.
They shall be better than us.
Of course, they would be much better than the Chinese Communists.

二月份，我去挪威参加一个颁奖仪式并作主题演讲。该颁奖仪式是由一个世界大学生组织主办。活动之一是给勇敢的民主自由斗士的大学生组织颁发【世界学生和平奖】。设立这个奖的宗旨是为了鼓励全世界的青年学生投入到争取民主自由和平的活动中去，增加全世界学生之间以"民主、自由、和平"为主题的交流，互相学习，互相鼓励，为人类的未来培养更多的政治家，而非政客。
除了5名评奖委员是成年人，这个组织的所有成员都是大学生，而且每两年全部更换。一方面有更多的年轻人获得了参与和实践的机会，另一方面很多年轻人也获得了展示自己才能的机会，通过这样一场活动，很多年轻人可以发现自己的潜力，会更有信心地向政治或社会公益努力，更早地培养自己，社会也因此更早地发现他们。这是一个在公平竞争的社会里培养接班人的方式。民主的社会就用民主的方式，公平竞争的方式刺激他们的年轻人向上进取，发展他们的才能。同时也通过民主与公平竞争的方式选择和淘汰，保证过关斩将一路优选出来的政治家和社会组织者是最好的。这就是为何民主国家有那么多优秀的社会上层，而中国的却是一些垃圾。其实不光是中国，古代和外国专制国家都存在一个解决不了的难题，就是接班人的问题。当一个国家正式而严肃地考虑接班人的问题的时候，它就是一个不折不扣的专制独裁的国家了。当胡锦涛被隔代指定为接班人的时候，他也就注定是在接掌一个独裁专制的暴君的位置。那些替“胡温新政”鼓吹的人，如果不是上当受骗再骗别人，那就一定是公开的或隐藏的马屁文人。
看着这些信心十足的年轻人，就知道民主社会不需要考虑接班人的问题。这些年轻人除了不够成熟外，其它一切都和现任的政治家没两样。但是人们会问，我们中国没有这种民主与公平竞争的环境，如果专制政权垮台了，谁来接班呢？不用耽心，在专制和不民主的国家里，有另外的途径培养民主的接班人，这就是反抗暴政的斗争。这次当选和平奖的是哥伦比亚的反抗暴政的大学生组织。这个大学生的组织在校园内外组织各种形式的活动，公开煽动学生和民众反抗专制独裁的政府，反对社会上的各种丑恶现象。我不知道他们的工作是不是像介绍中说得那么有影响，因为我对哥伦比亚国内情况了解得不多。但是我听着那位学生领袖的讲演就产生了一个想法。
这个年龄不大的姑娘居然像一个老练成熟的女政治家一样，沉着而又自信的侃侃而谈，不卑不亢，分寸得体。时而娓娓道来，时而慷慨激昂，半个小时的讲演，不像标准的反对派街头宣传，而像政治家在议会里辩论。这时候我突然发现，在为民主斗争的过程中，这种活动本身就在为将来的民主政治培养接班人。反对派的活动不仅仅是街头宣传，同时也是政治运作。年轻人在这种活动中不仅仅是在反抗，同时也在工作，也有公平竞争，也在历练政治能力，也在成长为政治领袖。民主的制度培养自己的政治家，不仅仅在正常运作中，不仅仅在民主的正常环境中，还在争取的过程中，民主的政治家们就已经产生了。
最近这些年，中共和他们在西方的盟友们总是拿这个大问题吓唬老百姓，似乎共产党倒台了，就没有人能管理中国了，这是个彻头彻尾的谎言。没见过哪个国家专制制度倒台之后就没有人管理国家了。中国虽大，也正像古语所说的“治大国如烹小鲜”。就是说，从治国到做菜，这样的大事小事都是人干的，学一学，历练历练，没什么干不了的。那些一本正经告诫百姓的人说：“共产党垮了就没人能管13亿人的中国”。而我则从刚才讲的事情里看到希望。我相信，那批在推翻专制的斗争中锻炼出来的年轻人，一定能把国家管理得像和民主国家一样好，他们肯定会比我们强，当然更比共产党强得多。
