The Overseas
Chinese Democracy Coalition Joins Forces for Activities in Observing the 16th
Anniversary of the 1989 June 4 Tiananmen Massacre in Beijing
-- Call for
Participating in Global-wide Activities in Various Cities, as well as a Global
Tiananmen Vigil on Thursday, June 3, 2005 8:00pm local time.
As the 16th
anniversary of 1989's June 4 Massacre in Beijing approaches, the Overseas
Chinese Democracy Coalition is calling for all its members and friends who
support Chinese human rights and democracy to join in rallies and activities
both locally and globally in observing this anniversary. The Coalition is organizing and
co-sponsoring activities in various countries. We are calling your attention to join your local June 4
memorial activities again this year.
This year also marks the first memorial after the death of Mr. ZHAO
ZiYang, the fired Communist Party head who refused to order the troops to open
fire on the protestors and demonstrators and thus was put under house arrest
for the rest of his life.
During the night
of June 3-4, 1989, the Chinese Communists' "People's Liberation Army"
employed tanks and guns to kill many students, workers, and other innocent
Chinese people who were peacefully demanding reform in the People's Republic of
China. The Chinese Communist Party
continues its totalitarian rule over China, imprisoning, torturing, and
executing innocent people, and mounting other human rights abuses every
day. The horrendous crimes
committed sixteen years ago in Beijing including the world-renowned Tiananmen
Square Massacre were never properly investigated and prosecuted.
The Overseas
Chinese Democracy Coalition will be leading and joining forces in various parts
of the world, including inside China, to take action in memory of the June 4 victims
and in support of democracy movements in China. There are fliers and posters are already spreading in the
major cities in China. For the
next two weeks, especially the coming weekend of June 3/4/5, we are having
memorial services and other related activities in South Korea, Thailand, New
Zealand, Australia, the United States and many European countries, etc. We call our friends to support and to
join these global activities, as you are able. For those friends who are at a distance, we ask you to light
candles in your windows to commemorate this 16th anniversary of the June 4
Massacre in Beijing. The specific
time is on Friday, June 3, at 20:00 in various time zones. This memorial is the ambition of the
Global Tiananmen Vigil, a two-year old international initiative by Olympic
Watch and various Chinese human rights organizations including the Wei
Jingsheng Foundation, etc. The aim
is to "create a rolling light of hope ... for the oppressed people in
China".
Among all the
activities in varies cities, the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition
co-sponsoring two events in Washington, DC, on June 3, 2005. One is in front of the Chinese embassy
from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. The
other is in Farragut Square, NW (intersection of K St & 17th St) from
11:30am until 2:00pm.

Global Tiananmen Vigil:
http://www.tiananmenvigil.org/)
Farragut Square, NW (intersection of K St
& 17th St)。
