WEI Jingsheng Stands and Speaks in Solidarity with Vietnamese Human Rights Activists, on the Occasion of Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's US visit
On June 18th Wei Jingsheng spoke at a rally protesting Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to the White House and appealing for an end to the Vietnam Communist dictatorship. Roughly 200 people attended the event, which was sponsored by the Coalition for Human Rights and Religious Freedom in Vietnam, representing Vietnam veterans, Laotians, the Montegard ethnicity in Vietnam and Chinese groups.
During his speech at the rally, Wei expressed his desire to join in and support the democratic aspirations of the Vietnamese people as a fellow member of a nation oppressed by another Communist government. Seeing as Communist governments work together to stay in power, he said, the people suppressed by them should also work together to bring an end of the Communist rule.
Wei
reminded people of the history that Vietnamese Communist rule was founded with
the help of the Chinese Communists from the beginning of the Vietnamese
Communist leader Ho Chi
Minh. The Chinese Communists helped the
dictatorship of the Vietnamese Communists, thus the people of both countries
suffer through the same type of pain and suppression. Although the visit of the Vietnamese Communists to the US
might be a sign that the US wants to use Vietnam in dealing with Chinese
Communists, we must be aware that the Chinese could be likely making deals with
the Vietnamese Communists under the table. We must be alert to the likelihood that these two communist
countries are united together in teasing with the Western democratic society.
Wei warned the U.S. government from trying to get closer to Vietnam so as to pull it away from China. Communist countries are all one family, so trying to separate them from one another is futile. In addition, Vietnam is small enough that it is still at the beck and call of China.
Wei also warned the Vietnamese government from thinking they could gain solidarity with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The CCP only cares about its own interests. The CCP is not a true friend of Vietnam and will only bring it problems in the future.
Wei
said: I want to let the Vietnamese government know that, as you have this opportunity
in cooperation with the America, you should take this opportunity for political
reform, to promote human rights and respect these Vietnamese who love
freedom. This will make Vietnam
better, with more help from the West.
If you unite with the Chinese government and play tricks around the West,
the result will not be beneficial to you, and will only bring even more
disaster to the Vietnamese people.
You should know that, for Communist China, if
being your friend serves its purposes today, then today it will provide you
with all the aid and show you “brotherly love”. If discarding you the next day serves
its purposes, then tomorrow it will discard you. The final result of playing tricks together with the Chinese
Communists could only end up like Saddam Hussein of Iraq.
