Thanksgivings from Wei Jingsheng Foundation to Our Supporters and Nominees for the Second Annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award"
Dear friends of Mr. Wei Jingsheng, Wei Jingsheng Foundation and all the others who are concerned about human rights and democracy in China:
On this Thanksgiving Day, we want to express our gratitude to those of you who have supported us, to our volunteers, as well as those of you who are inside China, who risk their freedom and more in an effort for a democratic and free China.
Our newsletter is entering its fourth year. As one of a few important ways for us to communicate with you in general, we want to say thanks in appreciation of those of you who have taken time, effort, and even risk to communicate with us, to send us timely news, analysis and response, even gifts and donations. In particular we appreciate the recent enthusiastic nominations for the second annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award". For this year, this foundation has organized and participated more activities than any of the previous years, as reflected in our news releases, nearly in the tota amount of the previous two years. We also received more nominations for the 2nd annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award" than the previous year.
Without a doubt, the nominations themselves are an enormous salute to those people inside China who sacrifice for a better China. From August to the last of day of the open nomination session (midnight of November 20, 2005 US EST), we have received over a dozen nominations from four continents, most of which are from people inside China. (By now, we have sent out our acknowledgement to all the nominators as well.) Of the eleven officially documented nominees by over ninety nominators, several of them were nominated multiple times, four of them were nominated by 3 different groups. (The award committee members were not permitted to nominate anyone.)
Although there are many more unsung heroes, as a recognition to all these democracy advocates and human rights activists inside China, we want to take this opportunity to honor all the qualified candidates we have received for this year (presented in the order of alphabet):
CHA JianGuo
CHEN Xi (release in May after in prison twice with more than a decade in jail)
GUO ShaoKun
HE DePu (in prison)
QIN YongMin (in prison)
WU YiLong (in prison)
XU WanPing (in detention, facing secret illegal trial)
YU DongYue (in prison)
ZHANG Lin (arrested for pro-democracy movement and sentenced for 5 years recently)
ZHAO Xin (continues his human rights work and was beaten up and wounded one week ago)
ZHU ZhengMing
We are pleased to say that there are more of fresh new nominations over last year. Hereby, we want to express our gratitude to these friends who communicated with us, to encourage us, especially many of theirs advises which urge us not to forget these people who worked hard to defend human rights and to push for Chinese democracy, especially these who were willing to pay for a dear personal price yet never even trying to seek any credit or name recognition from the result and the significance of their work and their effort. It is time now to salute them.
At this Thanksgiving time, we will not forget these people. Hereby, we thank them for their contribution with personal sacrifices. We also want to take this opportunity to thank these who have contributed to this award financially for this year. Currently, we have received a total of $3,000.00 award money for this year. We hope our readers and friends will join our effort to encourage the Chinese democracy advocators by contribute more to this award. Please specify your intention for your donation to be specifically used for this year's award, as well as your wish of remains anonymously, or receiving a public acknowledgement. We will send you a receipt if you requested so. The Wei Jingsheng Foundation is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status in the US.
