The Wei Jingsheng Foundation Mourns the Death of Mr. LIU Binyan
December 6, 2005
We are astonished to hear of the passing of Mr. Liu Binyan and feel deep sorrow. During his life, Mr. Liu was known to be honest and frank. With a sharp pen, he revealed the darkness and injustice in Chinese society under the communists. He was the voice of the bottom of the society and represented the consciousness of the Chinese.
After the 1989 Chinese democracy movement, Mr. Liu openly criticized the June 4th Massacre and has since actively participated in the overseas democracy movement. During his later years, he was in exile and was not allowed to go back to
China. At age 80, Mr. Liu has died in a place far away from his homeland.
The departure of Mr. Liu is a great loss to Chinese literature and media, to the Chinese democracy movement and to China as a whole. We at the Wei Jingsheng Foundation want to express our deep sorrow to the loss of Mr. Liu and would like to deliver sincere condolences to Mr. Liu's survivors, Ms. ZHU Hong and the rest of the family.
May Mr. Liu Binyan rest in peace.

魏京生基金会深切哀悼刘宾雁先生
惊悉刘宾雁先生辞世，魏京生基金会全体同仁无限悲恸。刘宾雁先生一生耿直，以一枝力笔揭露社会的黑暗与不平，发出了社会底层的心声。代表了社会的良知。
八九民运后，刘宾雁先生直言抨击六四屠杀，积极参与海外民主运动。晚年流亡海外，有家门而不得还，以致八十高龄客逝他乡。
刘宾雁先生离世，是中国文学界，新闻界，民主运动，以至全中国的巨大损失。藉此，魏京生基金会的全体同仁对刘宾雁先生表示深切哀悼，并向刘宾雁先生遗孀朱洪女士及其他家属表示亲切慰问。
愿刘宾雁先生安息！
