Prize" Award Announcement
December

Since
2004 the Wei Jingsheng Foundation has awarded the "Wei Jingsheng Democracy
Champion Prize" every year on December 5th. In the last three years the
awarding of this prize has had reverberations around the world. For those who
were persisting in the fight in China and at any moment in life-threatening
danger, the award has been an encouragement and consolation.
This
year we received many nominations. A number of the nominees received multiple
nominations, and some were nominated by groups of people. There are eleven
nominees this year as listed below:

Naturally,
the nominators believe the candidates they nominated had made a great
contribution to the cause of Chinese Democracy. Nominating someone is in and by
itself a way to commend all champions of democracy, including those unknown,
untiring democracy heroes who do not concern themselves with fame and fortune.
We have great respect for their strength of spirit and the sacrifice they have
made. Like past 3 years, this year's award gives greatest consideration to
those individuals and groups who have persisted in their work on the domestic
democracy movement inside of China. In particular, this year we awarded those
who gave up their freedom abroad and returned to China with determination to
join the democracy movement, and were thus persecuted numerous times, and now
locked away in jail.
After careful
deliberation, the award committee have decided that this year's "Chinese
Democracy Champion Prize" would be shared by two champions who are
currently in jail, Zhang Lin and Yan Zhengxue. To learn about their lives and
achievements please refer to Ms. Huang Ciping's award dedication "the
Courage of Love, and the Flames of Conscience."
The
honor bestowed to Zhang Lin and Yan Zhengxue is also a commendation of all the
candidates. It is our wish that through this commendation, we can encourage all
those who yearn for freedom and democracy to persist in their pursue for welfare
of the Chinese people, to listen to their conscience, and continue to think
independently; and further, to overcome fear with a pure conscience, to help
one another, and to work relentlessly in their fight for freedoms, rights, and
dignity of all.
This
year's award money totaling $5000 was collected from many different sources.
The donors have demonstrated their passion and belief for Chinese democracy. For
this we would like to express our deepest gratitude. In addition we would also
like to express our appreciation to all those who nominated candidates for the
Fourth Annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Prize." This
year people both inside and outside of China, both Chinese and non-Chinese, with
more than one hundred people from within China, and numerous democracy
advocators outside of China, participated in nominating candidates for this
award. Thank you all very much for your support, especially those mainland
democracy activists who risked their personal safety to contact us and share with
us information and their opinions.

魏京生基金会第四届“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”颁发公告
魏京生基金会自2004年以来，每年12月5日都颁发“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”。过去三年的颁奖在世界范围引起了很大的反响。许多尚在中国坚持奋斗、随时都有生命危险的人们，因此得到了激励和安慰。
今年我们收到了很多提名，其中有多位候选人获多次提名，若干为集体提名。今年的候选人共有以下十一名（按拼音顺序排列）：

6） 秦永敏
7） 孙文广
8） 唯色
9） 严正学

11） 浙江中国民主党人
如往常一样，提名者们认为被提名的候选人和团体为中国民主做出了卓越的贡献。提名本身就是对所有民主斗士，包括那些默默无闻、坚持不懈、不计名利的英雄们的赞扬。他们的精神和所做的牺牲，是我们非常敬仰的。和往年一样，今年的获奖者将以中国国内坚持民主运动的人们和团体为主，特别地，今年的奖励将着重于那些自愿放弃已有自由，毅然回国参加民运，并因此多次遭受迫害、身陷牢狱的人们。
经过讨论，评委会决定今年的“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”由正在牢中的张林、严正学两人分享。他们的事迹和简历，请参见黄慈萍女士的颁奖辞
《爱的勇气、良知的光焰》。
对张林、严正学两人的表彰，也是对所有被提名的候选人的表彰。希望通过这个表彰，激励所有的向往自由民主的人们，坚持对中国大众的爱，坚持良知，坚持独立思考，以纯正的良心来克服恐惧，彼此支持，为维护所有人的尊严、自由与权利而继续做出不懈的努力。
这次从各个渠道汇集的奖金总额是5000美元。所有捐款的人们，捐出的是他们对中国民主的热情和信念，在此我们表示衷心感谢。另外，我们也向第四届“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”参与提名的所有朋友们表示谢意。今年参加提名活动的有来自国内外中外朋友多人（其中包括中国大陆一百多人），以及海外众多民主人士。感谢您们的支持，尤其感谢那些冒着危险与我们联系，传递各种信息与意见的大陆民主人士。
