Wei Jingsheng Foundation Held An Extended Board Meeting and Welcomed Dr. James B. Chen as Its Latest Board Member

In January 2010, the Wei Jingsheng Foundation held an extended board of directors meeting. Attendees included board members and executive members Mr. Jingsheng Wei, Ms. Ciping Huang, Dr. Jonathan X. Chen, Dr. James B. Chen, and Legal Counsel Mr. Ning Ye. Absent were board members Marie Holzman and Felizitas von Schonborn. Both could not attend due to schedule conflicts.

Ms. Huang, Executive Director, presented to the meeting the work report of the Foundation to the board of directors. Among others, the following topics were discussed:

1. Broadening the coalition with other organizations;

2. Establishing new channels of fund-raising;

3. Establishing Wei Jingsheng Foundation advisory board;

4. Creating projects in the areas of democratic education, human rights advocating, and humanitarian aid.

Mr. Wei Jingsheng, on behalf of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, welcomed Dr. James B. Chen of Little Rock, Arkansas, to be the newest board member. Dr. James Chen received his Ph. D. from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was a council member of IFCSS (Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars, USA). He has been a close friend and supporter of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation for nearly one decade and was a judge of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation "Wei Jingsheng Democracy Champion Prize" Judging Committee for years. Dr. James Chen's direct participation as a board director will bring invaluable contributions to the Foundation.

The board of the directors also elected Mr. Jingsheng Wei as the Chair of the board. Dr. Jonathan X. Chen is its secretary, and Dr. James B. Chen is its treasurer.

The board also re-confirmed Ms. Ciping Huang as the executive director, and extended sincere appreciation for the dedication and professionalism she has exhibited in her work.

魏京生基金会召开董事会扩大会议并欢迎陈邦铮博士加入董事会

魏京生基金会于今年元月召开了董事会扩大会议。参加会议的理事和执行机构成员包括：魏京生先生、黄慈萍女士、陈兴宇博士、陈邦铮博士及法律顾问叶宁律师。另外的两位理事，玛丽侯芷明女士和菲什波恩公主，因时间冲突未能出席。

魏京生基金会执行主任黄慈萍女士向会议作了前一度的工作报告。会议对下一时期的工作进行了广泛的讨论，并决定集中展开以下几方面的工作：

1. 开拓同其他组织的联系与合作；

2. 开发新的募捐渠道；

3. 建立顾问委员会；

4. 开展民主教育、人权与人道方面的项目。

魏京生先生代表基金会对新加入董事会的陈邦铮博士表示了热烈的欢迎，并由衷地感谢他接受成为董事的邀请。现居小石城的陈邦铮获路易斯安那州立大学医学院博士学位，曾担任全美中国学生学者自治联合会理事。多年来，陈邦铮博士一直是魏京生基金会坚定的朋友与支持者，并担任魏京生基金会“魏京生中国民主斗士奖”评委多年。他的直接参与一定会给基金会带来新的能动性。

董事会上，魏京生先生被推举为魏京生基金会董事会的主席。陈兴宇博士担任秘书，陈邦铮博士为司库。理事会还决定黄慈萍女士继续担任基金会执行主任，并对她在工作中体现出来的奉献精神和专业能力表示赞赏与肯定。
