WEI Jingsheng: One Hundred Million People is an Important Symbol, More Chinese Young People Are Joining the Ranks of Quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Its Affiliates

July 21, 2011 (The Epoch Times special correspondent Nancy reports from Washington DC) On July 15, the Global Quit CCP Service Center, numbers of human rights organizations, prominent dissidents and nearly 3,000 people in all walks of life gathered at the Washington Monument. They held a large scale public rally for "disintegrating the CCP, stopping the persecution of Falun Gong, and supporting one hundred million people quitting the CCP organizations", in celebration of more than 98 million Chinese people quitting the Chinese Communist Party and its relevant organizations since December 3, 2004, more than six years ago,

The following is the speech at the rally by Wei Jingsheng, the Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition, the President of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, and the well-known political dissidents and human rights activist. (transcribed according to the voice record)

First of all, I want to thank you for so many years of persistent work. You are working hard every day and each month, and now we are seeing the results. A reporter asked me just before this speech, what do you think of this day? I think it is not what I think, but the fact that there are almost 100 million people who have quit the Communist Party and its affiliates, that is an important sign. What sign then?

Well, there are a lot of friends here who started this "quit the CCP" movement several years ago. We all know that there were many people who did not believe in it. People have asked "what are you doing?". They commented that it would not be very significant and there would not be many people participating. But now we can all see that there are more and more people participating, and more and more people understanding. There are so many people who have quit the Communist Party and its affiliates!

People have told me that the Communist Party had more than eighty million members; do you think you are able to make all of them quit? Now you see, the number is almost 100 million who have. Of course, there are many young people who were not party members, but members of the Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers. They took part too. I think that the current momentum is very good. There are people saying that you dragged the Young Pioneers in. But this is how I think: first, we did not drag them in, they found their own conscience. This is an opportunity for them to cleanse their conscience; second, young people already understand this cause. I think that it means that all the people are mobilized. Therefore, our activities are very meaningful and very important. A few years ago, our understanding had not reached such a depth, but now you see that the number is close to 100 million. This is the sincerity, this is the evidence. This illustrates that our efforts are very good, very sincere. This will be a very important foundation for the future changes in China.

We all know that China will face a big change in the future. And this big change is coming closer and closer. However, what direction will this change move toward? The basic work we are doing is to mobilize people's hearts. This is our best work. This is the work that will determine the big direction for China in the future. Therefore, my confidence is increasing more and more, like everyone else. Thank you and continue to work hard.

【大纪元2011年07月21日讯】（大纪元特约记者南希美国华盛顿报导）7月15日，全球退党服务中心、多个人权组织、著名异议人士和近三千名各界民众聚集在华府纪念碑前，举办了"解体中共停止迫害法轮功，声援一亿民众退出中共组织"为主题的公众大集会，庆贺自2004年12月3日起至今的六年多来，超过9800万中国民众退出中共党、团、队等相关组织。

以下是中国民主运动海外联席会议主席﹔魏京生基金会主席﹔著名政治异议人士、人权活动家魏京生先生在集会上的发言。 (根据录音整理)

首先要谢谢大家，谢谢大家这么多年以来坚持不懈的工作，每天每月都在努力，现在大家都看到成果了。刚才还有记者问我，说今天有什么感想，我觉得不是什么感想。就是现在退党已经接近一亿了，这是一个重要的标志，什么标志呢﹖

这里很多朋友都是好几年以前开始搞这个退党活动，都知道，当时很多人都不相信。人家都问你们这是搞的什么名堂呀﹖没有什么意思﹗你们这么搞没有什么人会参加。但是大家现在看到了，参加的人越来越多，理解的人越来越多，那么多人的退党﹗

人家跟我说，共产党有八千万党员，你退得完吗﹖现在你看，现在人数已经快接近一亿了。当然，还有很多年轻人不是党员的，是团员的，是少先队的，都参加了。我觉得这个势头非常好。有人总是说，你们连少先队的都拉进来了。我认为﹕第一，我们不是拉进来的，是他们自己良心发现了。这是他们洗清良心的一个机会。第二，年轻人已经理解这个事业了。我觉得这等于说是全民都动员起来了。所以我们这个活动非常有意义，非常重要。几年以前，大家的认识还没有这么深刻。但现在你看，已经接近一亿人数了。这就是诚意，这就是证据，说明我们的努力非常好，非常有诚意，这对将来中国大局势的改变都是一个很重要的基础。

我们都知道中国可能面临一个大变局，而且这个大变局离得越来越近了。但是这个变局往什么方向变呢﹖所以我们现在做的基础工作，是把老百姓的心动员起来。这就是我们最好的工作。这就是决定中国将来大方向的工作。所以我的信心越来越足。我和大家一样，信心越来越足了。谢谢大家，继续努力。
