Aircraft
Tows a Banner Commemorating the June 4th Massacre over the Chinese Consulate in
New York
--
by Zhang ShengQi of Boxun News
From
2:30pm to 3:30pm on June 5, 2012, a World War II old-style airplane flew back
and forth across the sky of New York City right around the Chinese
Consulate. There was a long banner
behind the tail of the aircraft, which stated: "Mourn June 4 Massacre". It was the second time that the June 4
Massacre in Beijing was mourned in this way in the sky of New York City. The first time was in 2010.
The
event was planed and sponsored by the Wei Jingsheng Foundation and the Chinese
Liberal and Democratic Party.
Originally, the flight was planned to be conducted during protest rally
in front of the Chinese Consulate on the afternoon of June 4. However, a working visit by U.S.
President Barack Obama to the United Nations resulted in a delay of this
protest event in the sky until the afternoon of June 5.
According
to the organizer of this event, Shi Yi, a Chinese student in the USA: "I
learned from that flight which was held on June 3, 2010 protesting the June 4
massacre in 1989. Many people have
claimed that we the younger generation of 1980's and 1990's only know
consumerism, and only care about ourselves instead of politics. But during that flight, we not only
wakened many people of our generation, but also let our predecessors have
confidence in us. The history is
to let generation after generation of people carry on."
The
photos and video were taken by Pan Feng, a New York State University student,
and Ai Furog, a Shanghainese who is petitioning at the United Nations for his
property that was plundered by the government.
