A
Brief Summary of the Activities and Efforts of Wei Jingsheng and the Wei
Jingsheng Foundation in the Five Years, from December 2007 to 2012
Sixteen
years ago, on November 17, 1997, under international pressure especially from
the then US President Bill Clinton, Mr. Wei Jingsheng was released from jail
and sent to exile in the USA.
Before that time, Wei Jingsheng was China's most prominent dissident
after spending a total of more than 18 years in jail for advocating
democracy. After that time, he
became the most visible freedom fighter and democracy leader for the Chinese
people and for world peace on the international stage.
On
November 17, 2007, we released a summary of the activities and efforts of Wei
Jingsheng and the Wei Jingsheng Foundation during the 5 Years from November
2002 to November 2007.

received enthusiastic response, especially since its introduction of “Lessons

20, 2010 was the 60th birthday of Wei Jingsheng. On that day, many human rights activists inside of China
talked to Wei Jingsheng directly to wish his a happy birthday and to continue
the undertaking of Chinese democracy and human rights. Later, about 60 friends gathered
together at a celebration in Washington DC area, on May 22, 2010. Some of them came from as far away as
Chicago, Connecticut, and New York.
The dinner party sponsored by several close friends included a photo
exhibition and a video show composed of photos of Wei Jingsheng with family and
friends, as well as interviews and speeches, specially made for this
birthday. During the party,
friends made moving public speeches and inspiring private talks in admiration
of Wei Jingsheng's contribution in thoughts and actions toward Chinese freedom
and democracy. At the end of the
party, participating friends received gifts and had them autographed by Wei
Jingsheng. These gifts included Wei
Jingsheng's book "Courage to Stand Alone - Letters from Prison",
"Heroes Bring Glory to the Place - Wei Jingsheng" -- a 5 part TV
series DVD by the New Tang Dynasty TV, and copies of artworks depicting Wei
Jingsheng and other human rights activists. All the received private donations were forwarded to the Wei
Jingsheng Foundation, a US tax-exempt and non-profit organization.
