Event Announcement and News Alert:

"Human Rights Without Borders" -- First Exhibition, Award Ceremony, and Seminar on Asia and Hong Kong in the US Congress, organized by the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, co-sponsored by the European Parliament Liaison Office with the US Congress and Reporters Without Boarders

 

 

Place: Foyer of Rayburn House Office Building of the US Congress

(address: Independence Avenue and South Capitol Street, Washington, DC 20003; the foyer is just above the security entrance facing Independence Avenue)

 

Exhibition duration: Thursday, October 2 & Friday, October 3, 2014 (whole day)

Opening and award ceremony time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm, Thursday, October 2, 2014

Seminar on Asia and Hong Kong time: 3:00pm - 6:00pm, Friday, October 3, 2014

 

We will have our first "Human Rights Without Borders" exhibition in the foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building of the US Congress in Washington DC on Thursday, October 2 and Friday, October 3, 2014.  For this year, the main subject by the Wei Jingsheng Foundation will be "The Contemporary History of the Human Rights and Democracy Movement in China", along with the exhibition material from the European Parliament Liaison Office with the US Congress and Reporters Without Borders.

 

Also during the afternoon of Thursday, October 2 from 4pm to 6pm, the Wei Jingsheng Foundation will award its first annual "Human Rights and Freedom Defender" Prize to Congressman Frank Wolf, for his decades-long effort and contribution to freedom and human rights, especially for the Chinese people.  The establishment of this award by the board of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation is to recognize those individuals and organizations who have contributed greatly to the course of Chinese freedom and human rights.

 

In the afternoon of Friday, October 3 from 3pm to 6pm, the Asia Democracy Alliance will hold a seminar on Asia and especially Hong Kong in Rayburn room 2103 nearby the Rayburn foyer.  Asian Community leaders and activists as well as experts on Asia will give talks about the current situation in Asia, with an emphasis on the ongoing protests in Hong Kong.  We will have speakers from Europe and Asia including some who just came from Hong Kong to speak as well.

 

For those of you who would like to join us and express your support for democracy and human rights in China and Asia at these events, please inform us of your attendance.  We also welcome your statements on the subject.

在周四,10月2日下午4点至6点的开幕式上,魏京生基金会将授予美国两党的汤姆·兰托斯人权委员会共同主席弗兰克·沃尔夫国会议员以首届“人权自由捍卫者”奖。以此表彰他为全人类,特别是为中国人的自由和人权,长达几十年的努力和贡献。由魏京生基金会董事会决定建立的这个奖项,是为了表彰那些为中国的自由和人权作出巨大贡献的个人和组织。

 

10月3日周五下午3点至下午6点,亚洲民主联盟将在雷伯恩(Rayburn)众议院办公大楼正门休息大厅边上的2103房间举办一个有关亚洲,特别是香港局势的研讨会。亚裔社区领袖和活动家以及亚洲问题专家将报告和讨论亚洲局势,尤其是目前香港的抗议活动。我们将有来自欧洲和亚洲的朋友,以及一些刚从香港归来的朋友发言。
