What
We Should Know at the 65th Anniversary of the Chinese Communist Regime?
--
Remarks at the Asia Democracy Alliance seminar in the US Congress
By
QIN Weiping on October 3, 2014
Ladies
& Gentlemen:
Good
afternoon. The Chinese government celebrated its 65th birthday the day before
yesterday. To the 1.3 billion
citizens of China, however, that day is not just one of the longest public
holidays in the year, but a memorial day for painful memory and human rights
disasters in China. The Chinese
communist party beat Kuomintang sixty-five years ago and won for itself the
control of the mainland of China through cheating and violence. In the past 65 years, the Chinese
communist government has not given their citizens even one single true ballot;
instead, they caused abnormal deaths of millions of citizens in China.
China
has achieved its economic miracle, however. China's GDP is No.2 in the world and China has become more
and more influential. Because of
the attraction of low labor costs and giant markets, thousands of capitalists
and their governments from Europe and America are competing for opportunities
of business corporation with the Chinese government. I, as a young entrepreneur and democracy activist, have to
remind the western world that there will surely be a huge ethical price for
these businesses.
Although
the Chinese government has shown its friendly gesture to many other countries,
it exploits and oppresses its people inside. You may not be able to imagine that. But it is true that China is one of the
least fair countries. Although the
Chinese government looks strong, what are behind it are the high taxes, low
benefits and an astonishing bad human rights record. This government has never stopped persecuting political
dissidents; Tibet and Xinjiang are among the ones areas that have encountered
the worst political disasters. We
have not seen even one single true ballot in today's China. While the Chinese government is doing
what it likes, we can do nothing.
The
Chinese government killed several thousands of citizens and young students
twenty-five years ago in Tiananmen Square, with both hands reeking with
blood. In Hong Kong now, thousands
of ordinary people in the Occupy Central movement are joining the umbrella
revolution. Hong Kong citizens
need a true democracy and true ballots, not a play-acting democracy. Hong Kong is now one of last hopes for democracy
in China. We call on the world to
watch Hong Kong and care about the fundamental rights of Hong Kong
citizens. We also have to keep an
eye on the possibility of a military crackdown by the Chinese government. Don't let the tragedy happen again. We hope the international community
puts more pressure on the Chinese government to make it care about public
opinion, open talks with protesters, and realize a true general election and
democracy, protecting Hong Kong's liberty.
I
really appreciate all your caring and the effort you have taken to help the
democratic future of China. An
autocratic china will challenge the world peace and lead to tremendous
uncertainty. We should unite all
people loving justice together to end the one-party rule by the Chinese
communist party and build a democratic China. This power change is in the interest of human kind and will
be the biggest success for human rights in the world.
We
are looking forward to it and hope it will come soon!
