Wei Jingsheng: We Are Always Concerned about People's Security and Happiness Whether the Issue Is Domestic or International.

On August 16 and 17, 2015, the China Road Research Institute in Europe held its second international seminar. To express his support for the conference organized by this civil society organization, Wei Jingsheng, the well-known dissident, made a special trip to attend it. Meanwhile, he took advantage of this opportunity to convene a European working group meeting of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition. This reporter interviewed Mr. Wei Jingsheng about the meeting.

The Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition that Wei Jingsheng chairs was founded in November 1998. Its aim was to enhence the exchanges and cooperation between various pro-democracy groups and people. Regarding this working meeting, Mr. Wei said: "I have not come to Europe for a while, and the Coaliiton has not held a meeting in Europe for almost ten years. I remember the last one in Europe was near Bonn. So many of our friends said that we should gather together in Europe, to discuss issues. The main purpose of this working meeting is to identify a few major policy issues."

Regarding the specific content of this working meeting, Wei Jingsheng said, "The recent situation in China has been changing rapidly. People, including both non-Chinese and people inside China, are asking about a number of issues, and would like our opinions. The first issue of interest is regarding the basic situation in China associated with the recent stock market crashes, as well as the plummeting Chinese currency Yuan (RMB). These events show the Chinese economy is in a very dangerous situation. Now the media are all reviewing this matter -- sometimes it is said that people inside China are making trouble, while some other times it is said that the trouble is due to the foreigners. But we think the main reason is that the Communist government has been manipulating the stock market, but played it poorly this time, and thus causing the stock market crash. Then, the government is turning around to take people's money to rescue that market. However, when the devaluation of the RMB happens, it will cause inflation later. The commentary by the news media is from the point of view of whether the capitalists will make or lose money, while our concern is that the upcoming inflation will let the Communist Party transfer the economic difficulty due to their mistakes to the average people, including some small and medium size businesses. All small investors (the dominant source of trading in China) will get in trouble."

In this regard, Wei Jingsheng stressed that "we are not concerned whether the capitalists can make money or not, we are concerned that the people will be in trouble. The Communist government did something wrong. Yet it has passed the disaster to the people. We firmly oppose this kind of conduct by the Communist Party. This is our basic attitude."

The second issue is an international one. Regarding this issue, Wei Jingsheng said, "In recent years after Xi Jinping came to power, there has been continuous provocation toward outside countries and the incitement of nationalism in China, while there is also inflamed nationalism elsewhere in Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. A while ago when I attended an event by the Vietnamese, I told them our basic opinion. I think the governments of these countries are inciting nationalist feelings due to domestic issues, which is likely to lead to disaster such as war and so on. So our attitude is: first we should oppose governments of each country trying to maintain the Communist regime by inciting nationlism. The purpose for them to incite nationalism is not patriotism, but in order to maintain their rule and fool their people."

In this regard, Wei Jingsheng stressed that regardless of all issues, domestic or international, we are always only concerned of the security and happpiness of people. "As the opposition, whether it is of China or Vietnam, we should not support the Communist regimes in our countries, just because of a few small islands. I think that standing on the side of the Communists and speaking in favor of the Communist regime is wrong. We must join together, including with ethnic groups, for the purpose of building democratic politics and overthrowing the tyranny of the Communist Party. If we follow the Communist Party due to nationalism, then we have made a great mistake."

从美国到欧洲来参加研讨会的著名异议人士魏京生先生，十六号主持召开了海外民运联席会议欧洲工作会议。关于这个工作会议记者采访了魏京生先生。

十六号、十七号欧洲中国之路研究院在荷兰海牙召开了第二届中国之路国际研讨会。流亡美国的著名异议人士魏京生先生为了表示对于这个民间组织的会议的支持，特别从美国赶来参加会议，并且利用这个机会在欧洲召开了海外民运联席会议欧洲工作会议。为此，记者采访了魏京生先生。

由魏京生担任主席的"中国民主运动海外联席会议"创立于一九九八年十一月，旨在增加各民运团体、人士的交流和协作。关于这次工作会议，魏京生先生说，"我很长时间没来欧洲了。联席会议已经差不多快十年没有在欧洲召开了。最后一次我记得是在波恩附近开的。所以很多朋友说我们要在欧洲，在一起议论议论。这次工作会议主要是要确定几个政策性的问题。"

关于这次工作会议的具体内容，魏京生先生介绍说，"最近中国形势变化很快，大家都在问一些问题，这包括外国人，也包括很多的中国老百姓。他们都在问，你们对这些问题怎么看？首先来说是对于国内的基本形势，也就是前些日子股市的暴跌，最近人民币也在暴跌，这造成中国经济处于很险恶的状况。现在媒体都在评论这件事情，有时候说是国内的在捣乱，有时候是国外的人在捣乱。但是我们认为最主要的是中共一直在操纵股市，这一次玩坏了，没有搞好，造成了股市暴跌，然后他又拿老百姓的钱来救市。而人民币一贬值，后面就会造成通货膨胀。媒体的评论都是从资本家能否赚钱的角度，我们的看法是，后面的通货膨胀是这次共产党又要把他们的错误造成的经济困难转嫁给老百姓身上，下边的老百姓包括一些中小企业可能都会陷入困境。"

对此，魏京生先生强调说，"我们不是看资本家能不能够赚钱，我们关心的是老百姓后边要倒霉了。共产党自己做错了事情，又要把灾难转嫁到老百姓身上。我们坚决反对共产党的这种做法。这是我们的基本态度。"

第二个问题是国际问题，对此魏京生先生说，"最近几年，习近平上台后不断地对外挑衅，煽起民族主义。日本和越南这两个国家，包括菲律宾也在煽起民族主义，前一段时间我去参加他们越南人的会议的时候，跟他们讲了一下我们的基本意见。我认为，这些国家的政府为了国内的问题在煽动民族主义，很可能会引起战争等等灾难。所以我们的态度是，第一我们反对各国政府利用煽起民族主义来维持共产党的政权。他们煽动民族主义的目的不是爱国，而是为了维持他们的统治，忽悠老百姓。"

对此，魏京生先生强调说，无论国内和国际问题，我们关心的都只是民众的安危和幸福。"我们作为反对派，无论是中国的还是越南的，我们都不能够去支持本国政府，不能够因为几个小岛的问题就站在共产党一边，帮助共产党说话，我认为这样做是错误的。而且我们之间的联合，包括各民族之间的联合就是为了建立民主政治，推翻共产党的暴政，如果我们因为民族主义就跟着共产党走，那我们就犯了极大的错误。"
