The
Wei Jingsheng Foundation Thanksgiving to Its Supporters and Notice of the
Disposing of the 6,000 Dollars Prize Money to Liu Diu, the Late Awardee of the
2011 "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Prize"
On
this Thanksgiving Day, the Wei Jingsheng Foundation wants to express our
gratitude to all the friends and supporters who have been unremittingly
supportive all these years, especially to express our gratitude to our
volunteers and comrades inside China, who risk their freedom and more in an
effort for a democratic and free China.
We
would also like to express our gratitude to our nominators and nominees for
this year's 13th annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion
Prize." Thank you for your
active participation in this democratic process. There is no doubt that the nomination itself is a great
process of recognizing those who have been promoting democracy in Mainland
China despite persecution and suffering.
This year, we have received several groups of nominations of more than
10 nominees.
Since
the start of the "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion Award" in
December 2004, the Wei Jingsheng Foundation has received a total of 51,300 US
dollars ($ 51,300.00) specifically for this award during the past 12
years. For a variety of reasons
mainly due to the awardees still being in prison, we have not been able to
deliver the award money to four of our awardees yet. In particular, the $6,000.00 (six thousand US dollars) award
to Liu Di in 2011, has not been delivered due to his death right before the
announcement date of December 5, 2011.
Mr. Liu was not married and without children, his next-of-kin father is
already deceased, and his mother is in dementia. His remaining siblings expressed that they would not take
this money and that Liu Di would want the foundation to give this award money
to the other people like him.
Since, this Foundation has contacted and consulted with all the donors
of the 2011 for this award, and all have agreed to use this $6,000 as a
one-to-one matching to double the award money for future awardees, until it is
gone.
At
this time of Thanksgiving, let us not forget that many of these who are persecuted
and suffered for the sake of a healthy, prosperous, democratic and free China;
these who have defended human rights and freedom with their conscience. Let us strive and take actions for
justice, dignity, freedom and rights of all.
At
this time of Thanksgiving, we want to emphasize that it is your continuous
support and help that gives us more confidence and courage to face and overcome
all sorts of difficulties in the past.
We want to thank you now and we look forward to even more cooperation
and coordination together in the future, to achieve a free and democratic
future for China.
Finally,
I would like to wish you all a happy holiday until the New Year of 2018 and
thank you for your continued support to Mr. WEI Jingsheng and the WEI Jingsheng
Foundation.

魏京生基金会感恩节致谢及关于2011年获奖人刘迪先生遗留的六千美金奖金的处置
感恩节来临之际，魏京生基金会向多年来坚持不懈地支持和帮助我们的所有朋友和支持者致谢，尤其是向我们出钱又出力的自愿者们，及冒着危险与我们联系，传递各种信息与意见的大陆境内的民主与人权斗士们表示谢意。
谨此，我们也向为第十三届"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"提名的朋友们表示谢意。感谢您们积极参与这项有助中国民主进程的活动。毫无疑义，提名本身就是对那些在大陆境内推动民主进程并因此而遭受磨难的人们的极大表彰。今年，我们又收到了好几组共十多位人物的提名。
自2004年12月以来，过去的十二届"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"收到相关捐款共五万一千三百美元（$51,300.00）。由于各种原因主要是获奖人尚在狱中的原因，四位获奖者的奖金尚未到位。其中2011年获奖人刘迪先生所遗留的六千美金奖金，由于没有家小的刘迪先生在颁奖日前的去世，一直未能送达。之后，他其他的亲属则表达了刘迪会希望本基金会将奖金用于其他获奖者。鉴此，魏京生基金会与当年馈赠六千美金的捐献者一一联络，大家一致同意将这些奖金专款专用，以一比一配比的方式用作今后获奖者的奖金--也就是说将此六千美元用于"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"奖金的加倍，直至用完为止。
