Jingsheng Foundation to Hold "Freedom of Speech and Freedom of News
Media" Forum on May 20, 2017
The
fifth of "The Way Out for China" seminars by the Wei Jingsheng
Foundation will be held:
On
Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 2pm to 5pm (followed by a dinner at 6pm)
The
place: 1150 Connecticut Avenue, NW, DC 20036, USA
Subject:
"Freedom of Speech and Freedom of News Media"
The
main speakers of the seminar: participants
This
"Freedom of Speech and Freedom of News Media" will be an open forum
for the participants who are interested in the topic, led by brief opening
remarks by Wei Jingsheng. We will
discuss what is going on in China, as well as the importance and profound
influence of the freedom of information, freedom of speech and freedom of news
media in China and thus extended to overseas. In particular, we will examine the recent related phenomena
related to Guo Wengui, a real estate tycoon in China who has surged into a
media hot star.
As
usual, seats are limited, and we will stop registration when this limit is
reached. Unusual from our past
seminars with a main speaker, we will open formal speeches to no more than 10
participants who have registered his/her desire to speak. Each speaker will have no more than 5
minutes speaking time, followed by 2 Q&A and comments by the others of no
more than 2 minutes each. Those
participants who could supply us with a written transcript more than 2 days in
advance will have your speech available and distributed at the forum, as well
as being able speak before those who do not have a written speech.
As
we have done in the past, we will provide drinks and snacks as well as 20
minutes of break time in the middle, followed by a dinner. We welcome all the participants to
attend our dinner. Anyone
interested in attending the seminar please register yourself ASAP with the Wei

to seating limitation. Due to the
security setup of the building, please call 202-270-6980 to enter the seminar
room upon your arrival.
The
Wei Jingsheng Foundation has been holding "The Way Out for China"
seminar series since September 2016 in an effort to take the initiative and
seek the best possible ways for China to collectively respond, discuss, and
take actions concerning the upcoming social, political, economic and cultural
changes in China.
Each
separate seminar will target one particular subject of interest or an ongoing
event related to China. We welcome
contributions and discussion from the attendees at the seminars, and
suggestions for future seminar topics and content, etc.

魏京生基金会将在2017年5月20日星期六下午2点至5点在美国首都华盛顿举办第五期"中国的出路"系列研讨会。这场题为“言论自由与新闻自由”的研讨会将在魏京生的简短开场白之后，成为对这一话题感兴趣的与会者的公开论坛。我们将讨论正在中国发生着的情况，尤其是信息自由、言论自由和海外新闻媒体自由的重要性和深刻影响，及其对中国乃至海外的影响，特别是最近成为媒体新星的中国房地产巨头郭文贵的相关最新现象。
