Wei
Jingsheng and Many Democratic Organizations Will Make Their Voices Heard During
the G20 Summit in Hamburg
--
Reported by Tian Yi of Radio Free Asia
2017-06-29
On July
7th and 8th, the G-20 Summit 2017 will be held in Hamburg, Germany. Many overseas groups are joining
together and preparing to go to Hamburg and make their voices heard during the
summit. These groups include the
Hans, the Mongolians, the Tibetans and the Uyghurs.
Because
the summit includes the heads of 20 influential countries in the world,
including the United States, Russia, China and Germany, it has received
widespread attention. It is
estimated by the local newspapers that the delegation of these 20 countries add
to nearly seven thousand people, while the demonstrators against the G20 are
estimated to be as many as ten to fifteen thousand, of which there are more
than eight thousand people who are potentially violent. To maintain the security of the G-20
Summit 2017, Germany is planning to use more than 15,000 police. Reporters learned that due to the
presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a number of overseas democratic
organizations have been planning activities in Hamburg during the summit. To this end, this reporter interviewed
Mr. Pan Yongzhong, who is involved with the organization of these activities.
Mr. Pan
Yongzhong told this reporter: "The G20 Summit will be held on July 7th and
8th in Hamburg, Germany. After
discussions and decision, we the overseas democracy groups determined that we
must bring the voice of our overseas dissidents to the international society,
and to the Chinese government.
Regarding
what are they going to express, Mr. Pan Yongzhong said: "First, we would
like to remind the G20 Summit to pay attention to China's human rights
situation and China's foreign policy while coordinating economic and trade
relations between these nations.
We urge the Chinese government to raise its political system to meet
international standards as early as possible, by implementing press freedom,
freedom of publication, and freedom of association and organizing political
parties, and to release all the political prisoners."
Regarding
the current situation internationally and in Asia, he emphasized: "Second,
we hope that the international community will urge the Chinese government to
respect human rights, to respect democracy and equality, to allow and to
implement self-determination as is defined by the human rights chapter of the
United Nations, while they are making economic exchanges and cooperation with
China. Third, we ask the
international community during their economic exchanges and cooperation with
the Chinese government, to resolutely oppose a war across the Taiwan Strait, to
speak against the Chinese Communist regime using force to intimidate and to
threaten Taiwan, to speak against diplomatic pressure, and ease cross-strait
relations. The development and the
future of Taiwan should be decided by the people of Taiwan."
Regarding
the groups and people who will participate in these activities, Mr. Pan
Yongzhong introduced: "There are many organizations and groups involved in
these events, which include the Chinese Democratic Front, the Forum that
Globally Supports Democratization in China and Asia, the Independent Chinese
PEN, the Inner Mongolia People's Party, the Republic Party of China, the
Chinese Democracy Party (Overseas Committee), World Uyghur Congress and other
organizations. Fei Liangyong, Liao
Tianqi, Wang Guoxing, Wang Ce, Dolkun Isa, Xi Haiming, Lobsang Nyima, Roland Kühne,
Chang Ping, Ren Wanding, Liu Weimin, etc. will attend these activities. In particular, we have specially
invited Mr. Wei Jingsheng, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy
Coalition, who will come to Hamburg to attend the event, and provide guidance
and participation in person.
