Wei Jingsheng and Leaders of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation Met with US Representative and CECC Co-chairman Chris Smith

On July 27, 2017, Mr. Wei Jingsheng and Maria Jose FIALHO, Minister Counselor of the European Parliament Liaison Office with the U.S. Congress, as well as Huang Ciping, Dr. Chen Bangzheng and Dr. Li Gang, leaders of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, went to the office of the CECC Co-chairman and Republican Congressman Chris Smith to meet with Rep. Smith and his assistants.

Rep. Smith gave Mr. Wei several documents, including the testimony of Wei Jingsheng's sister in the US Congress when she tried to rescue Wei Jingsheng many years ago, and the testimonies of Wei Jingsheng himself in the United States Congress afterwards. Rep. Smith said that "Your sister's speech was very touching, and I remember well". He also said of Wei's speeches were full of wisdom, logic, and clarity, are one of the most compelling speeches during the hearings.

Wei Jingsheng praised Smith and his assistants for their concerns and help to the Chinese people over the years, and said that as always he will assist their work. During the brief meeting, both sides discussed some next steps in the future. Then everyone entered Rayburn's foyer and began the "Human Rights and Freedom Defender Prize" award ceremony to Rep. Chris Smith. More than 100 people including many Chinese and a number of Congressional aids and representatives of human rights organizations witnessed the ceremony. During the ceremony, the House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi also arrived and gave a speech to congratulate Mr. Smith for receiving the prize. She also praised the perseverance and struggle by the colleagues of the Chinese democratic movement over the years, and wished the Chinese people will obtain democracy and freedom as soon as possible.

2017年七月二十七号，魏京生先生和欧洲议会驻美国国会办公室部长参赞Maria Jose FIALHO女士，以及魏京生基金会的主要领导人黄慈萍、陈邦铮博士、李刚博士前往国会及行政当局中国委员会的共同主席、共和党众议员克里斯·史密斯的办公室，会见了史密斯议员和他的助手们。
