Live Program: " Liu Xia's Plea for Rescue, the 200th Birthday of Karl
Marx, the Trade Talk Between the USA and China"
On
May 4, 2018, Wei Jingsheng, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy
Coalition, was invited to participate in a discussion in the China Live program
hosted by Radio Free Asia's He Ping.
The main subjects of the program were: " Liu Xia's plea for rescue,
the 200th birthday of Karl Marx, the trade talk between the USA and
China." Other guests who
participated in the program included: Wang Dan, Student Leader of the 1989
Democracy Movement, Doctor of History of Harvard University, USA; and Yeh
Yao-Yuan, Assistant Professor of the Center for International Studies,
University of St. Thomas, Houston, USA.
The following is a brief introduction by Radio Free Asia at the
beginning of the program.
This
week, the recording of the phone conversation of Liu Xia, the widow of the late
Chinese Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo, who protested against the
authorities' long-term house arrest with the expression that she would rather
"use death in opposition", has once again received high degrees
attention by international public opinion. In addition, during the May 1st International Workers' Day
in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hunan, and other
places in China, there are continued collective strikes of crane
operators. The "Peppe
Pig", which is loved by children all over the world, was under the siege
of Xi Jinping's "New Era" and was censored with the same fate
confronted by Santa Claus in China.
With the visit of the high-level U.S. trade delegation the U.S.-China
relations have once again become the topic of official and public discussion in
China. Although the metaphor of
the so-called "marital relationship" between the US and China as
described by the Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang is eye-catching, just how much
influence will result from the trade confrontation between the world's two
largest economies? The so-called
"big rock" referred to by China during the strategic confrontation is
likely to fall on whose foot in the end?
These are the topics that are explored in this program.
