Huang
Ciping's Letter to the Staff of the Topography of Terror Exhibition in Berlin
August
29, 2018
Dear
friends at the Topography of Terror,
My
name is Ciping Huang. I am the
executive director of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation and Secretary-General of the
Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition.
I
visited your memorial in Berlin that was built on the site of the former SS
headquarters during Nazi Germany on August 27 and 28 with great interest and
appreciation of your exhibitions.
On August 28, I talked and discussed with your staff Eva and Matthew
about my thoughts of your exhibition.
I also talked to your staff at the information desk and left my message
on your guest book. Here, I want
to present my thoughts related to your exhibition and hope to get your
attention.
I
felt that your exhibition tried to reflect honestly a chapter of a darkest
period in history when human rights were exploited and innocent people,
especially the Jewish, were terrorized and murdered. I also was lifted to see the depiction of the resistance
movement under the Nazi terror, including "the White Rose". All these dimensions must be learned
and considered to avoid a repeat of such terrible human tragedy.
However,
I did regret that, in your exhibition, I did not see materials on the SS
association with Interpol. From
1938 to 1945, with four SS leaders as heads of the Interpol, SS expanded Nazi
terror beyond Germany and persecuted even more people including Jews and those
who resisted, but managed to escape Germany or its occupied countries. When we pointed this out to the
Interpol Headquarters, they simply took those four presidents' names off the
list on their website. This is not
an honest attitude towards history; to erase the history may only result the
likelihood of a repeat of that history.
Such is true with Interpol - its current president Meng Hongwei is the
Vice Minister of Chinese Public Security, and the Chinese Communist regime has
been expanding its state terrorism to the world through institutions like
Interpol to prosecute their enemies, include dissidents and writers, etc.
Hereby,
I sincerely ask you to add a chapter of the Interpol's association with the SS
to your exhibition, or even have a special exhibition regarding this
subject. If we avoid the history
of terror, we may just repeat that terror. In the case of Interpol, the terror is continuing.
Finally,
I want to express the gratitude to see that you have kept a good section of the
Berlin Wall, another reminder of history.
In 1989, although the democracy movement in China was cracked down on by
the Chinese Communist regime in June, the Eastern Europeans, especially those
in East Germany, learned a lesson in a positive way that finally resulted in
the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Communist regimes in East Europe,
and the final unification of Germany.
As China has reached its own turning point now with the light of
democracy shining ahead, we hope people in the democratic world will not only
remember the history, but also give us the support and help us to succeed, to
expand democracy and freedom that every human being yearns for. In this progress of human society, you
may not just simply preserve the history but also to engage with the history to
push it for the better direction by honest record and exhibit of what had
happened for the earlier people.
Hope
to hear your responses. I could be
called at: 001-202-270-6980, or through e-mail at: HCP@WeiJingSheng.org or
HCP0411WJS@AOL.com to reach me.
Thank
you very much for your attention on this matter,
--

电子邮件:HCP@WeiJingSheng.org或HCP0411WJS@AOL.com。
