On
May 24, 2019, Mr. Wei Jingsheng, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy
Coalition, participated in the "China Live" program hosted by Radio
Free Asia's He Ping on the topics: Are the US and China Having a
"Technology Cold War"?
Why Is Taiwan's Military Exercise Unprecedented? Guests who also participated in the
review were Heng He and Wu Zuolai.
The following is an introduction of the program by Radio Free Asia.
This
week, Chinese technology companies such as Huawei, Dajiang and Hikvision
continued to encounter trade and technical sanctions they may face or the US
may upgrade. The discussion about
the US and China entering a "Technology Cold War" has also become
increasingly popular. After the
Chinese government released its anti-American film propaganda, with a reduction
of corporative taxes on IC and software design along with other initiatives, Xi
Jinping inspected the rare earth mines with high profile and called for the
opening of the "new Long March". Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared straightforwardly
that he would "fight" the United States to the end, while the Chinese
Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng requested the United States to
"take an attitude of sincerity and correct previous mistakes." What kind of stalemate have they set
for the current US-China relationship?
At the same time, Taiwan has opened its largest air and sea military
exercise in recent years, and US warships once again will cross the Taiwan
Strait again this week. What
unprecedented changes will there be for the situation in the Taiwan Strait, as
the ongoing strategic competition between the US and China, and the upcoming
Taiwan general election, and the threat of a military forced unification with
Taiwan by the Chinese government?
This program is to explore these topics.
