Thirty
years ago, the Chinese Zhang Jian protested in Beijing against the regime -
now, under mysterious circumstances, he died after an emergency landing at
Munich Airport. Is it a perfidious
act of murder?
Update
16:50: After the death of a Chinese patient in the hospital in Freising, the
prosecutor in Landshut continues to investigate the cause of death. Now, after the autopsy there would
still be toxicological examinations, said chief prosecutor Thomas
Steinkraus-Koch on Wednesday.
"It may take a while to get results," he said. "We have no indication of a crime
at the moment."

/ Landshut - The plane was on its way from Oman to Paris in April. During the flight, a 48-year-old
passenger became so seriously ill that the pilot asked for a special landing in
Erdinger Moos - Germany's second-largest airport, which is nothing out of the
ordinary. The patient was
immediately admitted to the Klinikum Freising. Later he died there last month.

The
doctor set "cause of death unexplained." The Erding Criminal Investigation and the Landshut
prosecutor came into play. But
then the investigators did not suspect who they had there. At first, they could not do anything
with the name of the dead man, Zhang Jian. The corpse was autopsied.
Thomas
Rauscher, spokesman for the Landshut state prosecutor's office, told our
newspaper: "The man died of a blood poisoning, which had irreversibly
attacked several organs." For
the authorities the case was done.
"We released the corpse for burial."

But
shortly before the final farewell, a whistleblower who came from the circle of
the dead man's family reported.
According to Rauscher, Chinese exiles believe that the 48-year-old may
have been murdered. According to
"der Spiegel", the suspicion is because it is the former Chinese
dissident Zhang Jian.
He
was an 18-year-old in June 1989 in the bloodily defeated protests on the
Tiananmen Square in Beijing who had a leading role on the part of the
demonstrators against the regime.
It was believed his history could have caught up with Zhang through a
poison attack, according to Rauscher.

spokesman.
Munich
Airport: District Court to Order New Autopsy - Was the Chinese Murdered?
Now
the district court in the Lower Bavarian capital has decided on a new
autopsy. "At the moment, we
are not starting out on a crime, but on an unexplained cause of death,"
Rauscher points out. That hints
they are taking it seriously. The
prosecution assumes that the result will be available in several weeks.
Death

Huang
Ciping, director of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation in Washington DC, told the
"der Spiegel," that there had been several deaths of Chinese
dissidents who had liver diseases.
Zhang also reported a liver abscess.
The
aim of the new autopsy will be to look for poison residues or radioactive
contamination. The result would
determine whether the death investigation procedure becomes a case for the
Erdinger homicide commission.
Huang Ciping spoke of this as a "disturbing case".

16.50 Uhr: Nach dem Tod eines chinesischen Patienten im Krankenhaus in Freising
lässt die Staatsanwaltschaft Landshut weiter die Todesursache untersuchen. Nun fänden
nach der Obduktion noch toxikologische Untersuchungen statt, sagte
Oberstaatsanwalt Thomas Steinkraus-Koch am Mittwoch. "Es kann dauern, bis
wir ein Ergebnis haben", sagte er. "Wir haben momentan keinen Hinweis
auf eine Straftat."

ungeklärt". Die
Kriminalpolizei Erding und die Staatsanwaltschaft Landshut kamen ins Spiel.
Doch wen sie da vor sich hatten, ahnten die Ermittler zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch
nicht. Mit dem Namen des Toten, Zhang Jian, konnten sie anfangs nichts
anfangen. Der Leichnam wurde obduziert.
Thomas
Rauscher, Sprecher der Staatsanwaltschaft Landshut, sagte unserer Zeitung:
"Der Mann ist an einer Blutvergiftung, die mehrere Organe irreversibel
angegriffen hatte, gestorben." Für die Behörden war der Fall damit
erledigt. "Wir haben den Leichnam zur Bestattung freigegeben.
Hinweise
auf Auftrags-Mord: Chinesischer Dissident vergiftet?
Doch
kurz vor dem endgültigen Abschied meldete sich ein Hinweisgeber. Er soll aus dem
Kreis der Familie des Toten kommen. Laut Rauscher gehen chinesische Exilanten
davon aus, dass der 48-Jährige ermordet worden sein könnte. Denn es handelt
sich laut "Spiegel" um den einstigen chinesischen Dissidenten Zhang
Jian.
Der
war als 18-Jähriger im Juni 1989 bei den blutig niedergeschlagenen Protesten
auf dem Platz des Himmlischen Friedens in Peking mit dabei - in führender Rolle
aufseiten der Demonstranten gegen das Regime. Sein Umfeld, so Rauscher, glaubt,
diese Geschichte könnte Zhang nun eingeholt haben - durch einen Giftanschlag.

Bei
dem Tian'anmen-Massaker hatte das chinesische Militär die Proteste der
Bevölkerung, vor allem von Studenten, die für eine Demokratisierung gekämpft
hatten, gewaltsam zu unterdrücken versucht. Das Bild, auf dem sich ein Student
einem Panzer entgegenstellt, hat Weltgeschichte geschrieben. Für die Landshuter
Staatsanwaltschaft musste es jetzt schnell gehen. "Wir haben sofort die
Beschlagnahmung der sterblichen Überreste angeordnet - direkt beim
Bestatter", so der Sprecher.
Flughafen
München: Landgericht soll neue Obduktion anordnen - wurde Chinese ermordet?
Nun
muss das Landgericht in der niederbayerischen Hauptstadt über eine neuerliche Obduktion
entscheiden. "Im Moment gehen wir noch nicht von einem Verbrechen aus,
sondern von einer ungeklärten Todesursache", stellt Rauscher klar. Die
Hinweise nehme man aber ernst. Die Staatsanwaltschaft geht davon aus, dass das
Ergebnis erst in mehreren Wochen vorliegt.
Tod

Dem
"Spiegel" sagte Huang Ciping, Direktorin der Wei Jingsheng Foundation
in Washington, es habe mehrere Todesfälle chinesischer Dissidenten gegeben, die
zuvor an der Leber erkrankt waren. Auch bei Zhang soll ein Leberabszess
festgestellt worden sein.
Ziel
der neuerlichen Obduktion wird sein, nach Giftrückständen oder radioaktiver
Belastung zu suchen. Dann zeigt sich, ob aus dem Todesermittlungsverfahren ein
Fall für die Erdinger Mordkommission wird. Huang Ciping sprach von einem
"beunruhigenden Fall".
