Speech at the Photo & Art Show of the 1989 Democracy Movement in China In the US Congress & the Rally in Front of the US Capitol

Thirty years ago today on June 4, thousands of Chinese were massacred by the Chinese government. That was because they demanded democracy and freedom, opposed officials' corruption, and insisted that the Communist authorities give the Chinese people a positive response. However, they were brutally suppressed by the Chinese Communist regime and its army headed by Deng Xiaoping. This cruel repression gave the Chinese people a clear lesson, as it proved that the Communist Party is indeed the enemy of the people; an enemy that does not reason with the people.

This brutal massacre on June 4, 1989 sacrificed thousands of Chinese heroes, as well as warned other leaders in the Communist camp. At the same time, it also inspired the fighting spirit of the people of the former Soviet Union and Eastern European countries, which quickly led to the collapse of the communist regimes of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. It changed the world political structure, and formed a wave of democratization.

Regrettably, the Western democracies headed by the United States have not given the Chinese people very strong help, nor have they given Deng Xiaoping's clique effective pressure. At the critical moment of the indecision of the Deng Xiaoping clique, some wrongful signals were released, which were equivalent to a green light for the Communist regime's massacre. Shortly after the massacre, the economic openness helped the Chinese Communist Party stabilize its rule in China resulting in a pause of this wave of democracy in China.

This appeasement policy toward communist atrocities poses danger to both the American people and the world. Finally more and more the American people are finding the appeasement intolerable, and under the leadership of their government they have begun to correct the wrong action. This has caused a deadly threat to the Communist regime and opened a new wave of democratization.

The collapse or peaceful evolution of the Communist regime will lead to a series of collapses of the communist regimes and authoritarian regimes, which will bring new patterns and more happiness to all mankind. We Chinese must carry on the spirit of sacrifice of the June 4 martyrs and once again walk in the forefront of the waves of democracy and freedom. We will strive for a bright future for a quarter of the human beings and more in this world.

Wei Jingsheng's Introduction of Madam Speaker Nancy Pelosi on June 4, 2019 at Photo & Art Show of 1989 Democracy Movement in China in the US Congress

Madam Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, most certainly does not need an introduction. However, I'd like to emphasize that she is not only a stateswoman familiar to the American people, but also a champion beloved by the Chinese who crave for freedoms and democracy.

I clearly remember many years ago, when I was having lunch with Nancy in a cafeteria at the US Congress, a congressman came over to say hello. He told me Nancy was the person I should talk to about human rights in China, because on that topic he and his fellow Congressional members all listened to her. Indeed, her relentless attention to human rights in China for so many years, and her brave protest to the tyrannical ruling of the Communist Party right in the Tiananmen Square, have earned Nancy a great reputation and trust.

Nowadays everyone knows that the US government is correcting the unfair trading situations with China. But in fact, two decades ago, Nancy and we were fighting side by side, doing our best to deny the communist regime the opportunity to pursue unfair trade with the US. Then, there were many politicians from both parties working closely with us. Our defeated efforts at the time have proven to be a great failure and a tremendous loss for both the American and Chinese people. After twenty lost years, we now have to restart the battle.

Now let us warmly welcome Madam Speaker Pelosi to share her thoughts with us.

三十年前的今天的6月4日，成千上万的中国人遭到政府的屠杀。因为他们要求民主自由，反对官场腐败，并且坚持要求当局给人民一个说法。他们遭到了以邓小平为首的中国共产党和军队的残酷镇压。这场残酷的镇压给中国人民一个清楚的教训，证明了共产党确实是人民的敌人，不和你讲理的那种敌人。

这场残酷的六四屠杀，牺牲了成千上万中国的英雄，也警告了共产党阵营的其他国家领导人。同时还激励了苏联和东欧各国人民的斗志，很快就导致了苏联和东欧共产党政权的崩溃，改变了世界政治格局，形成了一波民主化的浪潮。

遗憾的是，以美国为首的西方民主国家，没有给予中国人民有力的帮助，也没有给予邓小平集团有效的压力。在邓小平集团犹豫不决的关键时刻，释放了一些错误的信号，等于为共产党的大屠杀开了绿灯。并且在大屠杀后不久，就用经济上的开放帮助共产党稳定了统治，以致给这一波民主浪潮画上了休止符。

这种对共产主义暴行的绥靖政策，给美国人民和世界都带来了危险。越来越多的美国人民终于忍无可忍，在美国政府的领导下开始了纠正错误的行动。这对共产党造成了致命的威胁，同时开启了一波新的民主化浪潮。

中国共产党的垮台或者和平演变，将导致一系列共产党政权和专制政权的垮台，将为全人类带来新的格局和更多的幸福。我们中国人要继承六四先烈们的牺牲精神，再一次走在民主自由浪潮的前列。为人类四分之一和更多的人争取光明的前途。

做为美国众议院的议长，南希·佩洛西勿需介绍。但她不仅仅是一个美国人民通晓的政治家，更是一个爱好自由与民主的中国人们所爱戴的政治家。

记得很多年以前，有一次我和南希在国会的餐厅里吃午饭，一位众议员过来打招呼说：中国人权的事情你就和佩洛西谈吧，这方面的事情我们都听她的。确实如此，多年关注中国人权，并且勇敢的在天安门广场抗议共产党的暴政，为佩洛西赢得了崇高的声望和信任。

现在大家都知道美国政府在纠正和中国之间的不公平的贸易。其实早在二十年前，我们和佩洛西就在并肩战斗，试图拒绝给予中国不公平贸易的机会。还有很多两党的政治家们和我们并肩战斗。我们当时的失败，被证明是美国以及中国人民的失败和巨大的损失。二十年后我们不得不重新开始这场战斗。

现在我们就来欢迎佩洛西议长发表她的重要意见吧。
