On
July 19, 2019, Mr. Wei Jingsheng, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy
Coalition, participated in the "China Live" program hosted by Radio
Free Asia's He Ping: The Chinese Economy Is Going Down, the "One Country,
Two Systems" Is Coming to an End, Is There a Solution for the Beidaihe
Conference? At the same time,
invited guests who also participated in the program were Mr. Wang Juntao, a
Chinese political scholar residing in the United States, and Mr. Deng Yuwen, a
researcher at the China Strategic Analysis. The following is an introduction by Radio Free Asia.
The
mysterious Beidaihe conference of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership
is just around the corner.
According to data released this week by the Chinese National Bureau of
Statistics, the growth rate of the Chinese economy in the second quarter of
this year fell to a 27-year low.
With the US President Trump continuing his threat to add tariffs for the
remaining 325 billion of the Chinese goods, which is related to the economic
situation of the CCP's self-identified legitimacy, how to deal with the impact
of the trade war is worrisome. At
the same time, Hong Kong's "anti-extradition bill" protests continue
to rise, as does of support in public opinion of Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen,
which also relates to the so-called "one country, two systems"
seemingly threatening the stability of the Communist regime. After the revision of the Chinese
Constitution and policy of "everything to be determined by one
person", how will the building of the CCP that was emphasized by Xi
Jinping be used to define the tune for the Fourth Plenary Session of the CCP's
19th Congress? Can the veterans
and so-called reformers within the CCP leadership influence any decision-making
of Leader Xi Jinping? This program
is to explore these topics.
