About the leading participants:

 

BG Robert SPALDING: Author of Stealth War: How China Took Over While America's Elite Slept. Retired from the U.S. Air Force as a brigadier general after more than twenty-six years of service. He completed his career as the senior director for strategic planning to the president at the National Security Council, and was the chief architect for the National Security Strategy. He is a former China strategist for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, as well as a senior defense official and defense attaché to China. Phil THOMAS: Research Fellow and Director of George Mason University's (GMU) Schar School of Policy and Government's Global Food Security Project and adjunct professor in GMU's Honors College.  His courses focus on the impact of social media in the 21st century as a tool of social, political, and economic change. His analysis of the increasing importance of social media in global society addresses the positive and negative forces of social media which simultaneously enhance and undermine global society. Prior to GMU, he worked for over 40 years with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) where he was an Assistant Director with the International Affairs and Trade Group leading major reviews of International Issues and U.S. Government funded global programs.
