On January 3, 2022, the Voice of America Window on the World and VOA Connect programs broadcasted its host Zhiyuan’s interview with Wei Jingsheng. The following is a brief introduction.

On New Year's Eve, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a New Year's message for 2022. Unlike previous years, Xi Jinping did not mention reform and opening up, or China's GDP in his speech. Xi Jinping emphasized that the Sixth Plenary Session of the Central Committee for the 19th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) adopted the third historical resolution for the CCP. He said, "I once talked about the ‘Cave Conversations’ between Chairman Mao and Mr. Huang Yanpei. Only by having the courage to revolutionize ourselves can we win the initiative in history." Some commented that Xi Jinping deliberately concealed the democratic topic in the "Cave Conversation". How to interpret Xi Jinping's New Year's message?

Mr. Wei Jingsheng pointed out in the VOA interview that the CCP came to power by deceit in the name of democracy. However, once it got the power, there was no democracy, and the CCP started to eliminate democrats and cracking down on voices demanding democracy. This became more and more intense from the 1950s to the Cultural Revolution, and democracy was even openly opposed during the Deng Xiaoping period. Now that Xi Jinping can't continue any longer, he picks up this slogan again, saying "democracy is in whole process (in China)", but in fact, the common Chinese are not even allowed to speak out. This is not only fake, but also a joke, trying to deceive the common Chinese again.

Wei Jingsheng also pointed out that the current economic figures in China are ugly, and even Lou Jiwei, the former Minister of Finance, admitted that the Chinese statistics are falsified and very serious. What's more, even if China's GDP grows, it will not benefit the common Chinese. What Xi Jinping cares more about is to continue to be re-elected as the CCP’s Secretary-General at the CCP’s 20th Congress, to become the emperor and to rule permanently. This is very dangerous for China. Wei also emphasized: especially this time, Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized that starting from the Politburo Standing Committee, everyone must be loyal to the CCP and abide by discipline. This shows that everyone's general dissatisfaction has risen to the level of the Politburo Standing Committee. People can no longer bear it. Even conflict within the CCP is getting sharper and becoming more public.

Regarding the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, which Xi Jinping is concerned about, Wei Jingsheng pointed out that the sanctions imposed by the international community have put the CCP under increasing pressure. In fact, the CCP in Beijing is not trying to hold the Games as a love for the sports, but to improve its diplomatic image. The same was true of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The CCP spent a lot of Chinese people’s money for the purpose to plate gold on its face, and it didn't help the Chinese people. But now that the CCP continues to maintain its wolf warrior diplomacy and continues to confront the whole world, this 2022 Winter Olympics will have little effect for the CCP. Coupled with the rampant path of the CCP virus, the CCP’s goals are even more difficult to achieve.

Wei Jingsheng also pointed out that more than 80% of Taiwanese people are now sober and opposed to the CCP's so-called "one country, two systems" and the Mainland Chinese have no interest in "liberating Taiwan". Due to a series of measures by the CCP such as the National Security Law, Hong Kong and Macau have also become very bad. Their bridge functions have been lost, and they are no different from the Mainland China. Everyone has begun to flee. Xi Jinping's clichés now have little effect on them.

Wei Jingsheng finally pointed out that the problem of the CCP is not only the problem of Xi Jinping's dictatorship. Only with democracy can the CCP's dictatorship problem be fundamentally solved in China.

2022年1月3日，美国之音VOA连线及时事经纬节目播出了其主持致远对魏京生的采访。以下为内容简介。

新年前夕，中国国家主席习近平发表了二〇二二年新年贺词，与往年不同的是，习近平在讲话中即没有提到改革开放也没有谈到中国的国内生产总值。习近平强调十九届六中全会通过了中共的第三个历史决议。他说“我曾谈到当年毛主席与黄炎培先生的“窑洞对”，我们只有勇于自我革命才能赢得历史主动。”有评论说，习近平有意隐去了“窑洞对”中的民主议题。如何解读习近平新年贺词？

魏京生先生在采访中指出：中共打着民主的旗号，靠欺骗上台。但它一旦执政，就没有民主了，就开始扫除民主人士，打击要求民主的声音。这从50年代起，到文革期间，越演越烈，甚至在邓小平时期公开反对民主。现在习近平撑不下去了，又捡起这个口号，说什么“全过程民主”，而实际上，老百姓连说话都不让。这已经不仅仅是假的，而且成了笑话了，是想再次欺骗老百姓。

魏京生还指出，目前中国的经济数字很难看，连前财政部长楼继伟都承认统计数字造假，且很严重。何况即使中国的GDP增长，也无益于老百姓。习近平更在乎的是在中国20大时继续连任，成为皇帝，永久执政。这对中国是非常危险的。魏还强调：尤其是这次习近平反复强调，从政治局常委开始，大家要对党忠诚守纪律，这正说明大家的普遍不满，已经上升到政治局常委的层面了，人们已经忍无可忍了，党内矛盾越来越尖锐，甚至公开化了。

关于习近平关心的北京冬奥会，魏京生指出国际社会对中共进行的制裁，压力越来越大。北京的中共其实不是想搞运动会，而是想借此来提高其外交形象。2008年的北京奥运也是如此，花了中国老百姓的许多钱，就是为了给中共脸上贴金，对中国老百姓没什么帮助。但现在中共继续保持其战狼外交，继续与全世界对抗，这个冬季奥运会起不了什么效果。再加上中共病毒的猖狂，中共的目的就更难以达到了。

魏京生还指出目前80%以上的台湾人民都已清醒，反对中共所谓的“一国两制”，而大陆民众也对什么“解放台湾”没有兴趣。因为国安法等一系列措施，香港、澳门也变得非常糟糕，其桥梁作用已经失去，与大陆没什么区别，大家开始逃亡。习近平现在的陈词滥调对他们已没什么作用。

魏京生最后指出，中共的问题不是习近平一人独裁的问题，只有民主了，才能从根本上解决中共的独裁专制问题。
