[Banned News] Experts
Are Worried About the Operation of Nuclear Power Plants in Densely Populated
Areas of Shandong, China
[New Tang Dynasty News,
Beijing time, December 18, 2023] The nuclear power plant built by the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) government in Rongcheng,
Shandong Province, known as the world's first fourth-generation nuclear power
plant, has been officially put into commercial operation. Experts said that this nuclear power plant is
located in a densely populated area, and the Chinese Communist Party's nuclear
operations have no regard for safety and lack of information transparency,
which is worrying.
Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Plant
by Huaneng etc. was connected to the electric grid
for the first time in December 2021 and was officially put into commercial
operation in Rongcheng, Shandong on December 6 this
year.
The CCP claims that it
marks China's reaching the world's leading level in the research, development,
and application of fourth-generation nuclear power technology. Because it uses a "high-temperature
gas-cooled reactor", it has "inherent safety", that is, even if
all cooling capabilities are lost, the reactor can remain in a safe state
without taking any intervention measures, and there will be no core meltdown or
radioactive material leaked.
But experts say these
claims are hardly reassuring.
Huang Ciping, a former
nuclear physicist at the Ministry of Nuclear Industry of China: "Is it
really as good as they say? I'm a little
worried that the CCP is so obsessed with success that in order to compete for
the first place, it will ignore safety issues.
There are some methods in so-called 4th generation reactors, some
including the use of sodium, where the materials themselves are even not very
safe. For example, when sodium explodes,
it could have a chain reaction, which could lead to an uncontrollable
situation. So I am skeptical about this
type of statement."
Rongcheng, with a permanent
population of more than 700,000, is located at the easternmost end of Weihai City, Shandong Province. It is also the closest city in mainland China
to South Korea, with the two separated by only slightly more than 100
kilometers. Rongcheng
is also very close to North Korea and Japan.
The former nuclear
physicist at the Ministry of Nuclear Industry of China Huang Ciping said that
the location selections of nuclear power plants in China are very unscientific.
Huang Ciping: "When
other countries build nuclear power plants, they keep them far away from
densely populated areas. If something
goes wrong, the people and their property and health will not be greatly affected. But China is just the opposite, as it is easy
to supply power when its close to the population. Now the situation is even
worse. The Shidao
Bay nuclear power plant is in Rongcheng, which is the
closest point to North and South Korea.
Once an accident occurs, it could really affect a lot of people.
Currently, China ranks
third in the world in terms of the number of nuclear power plants. Among the top countries in nuclear power
generation, China is expanding its scale at an overwhelming rate. As of May this year, China has 23 nuclear
power plants under construction, which is close to 40% of the total number of
59 nuclear power plants under construction in the world.
Even experts from the
CCP openly talk about the "Great Leap Forward" in nuclear power,
"surpassing France and catching up with the United States", and
eventually becoming the first in the world.
But Huang Ciping said
that when the CCP disregards nuclear safety in an effort to launch a nuclear
power Great Leap Forward, it could be extremely dangerous.
Huang Ciping: "The
CCP always wants speed and economy. When
its revolutionary order comes, everyone must follow it. I know that it has had nuclear accidents. I used to work at the Institute of Atomic
Energy of the Ministry of Nuclear Industry, and there were actually quite a few
accidents there. During the Cultural
Revolution, young Red Guards took radioactive materials and placed them on an
open place on the lawn. Now China is
actually going back to the Cultural Revolution again. If it gets out of control in the end, I think
it is really unimaginable."
Huang Ciping said that
when nuclear power, which could originally benefit mankind, falls into the
hands of a crazy government, not only will it fail to bring benefits to the
people, but also it will cause devastating disasters.
Huang Ciping: "The
most terrifying thing among all this is that the CCP's information is
opaque. It won't tell you if an accident
occurs, so one may just go and eat what the reactor could bring slowly, until
one feels something is wrong, or even gets cancer. Then the CCP may say that such a thing had
happened. Such as during the earthquake
in May 2008, you saw that the CCP central government did not respond for a long
time because it actually knew that there were many nuclear-related factories in
that area in Sichuan that it had to deal with.
Then they covered it up at that time.
In fact, some accidents happened and people died."
In 2010, a nuclear leak
occurred at Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant,
China's first large-scale commercial nuclear power plant. The CCP once completely blocked the news.
In June 2021, the US
media broke the news that there was an "immediate radiation threat"
at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong. Taishan Nuclear
Power Plant initially responded that the indicators were normal. It was not until under pressure from public
opinion that the CCP authorities admitted that fuel rod damages had indeed
occurred at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant. The incident not only aroused tension among
local, Hong Kong and Macao residents, but also caused Framatome,
the French joint venture of the Taishan Nuclear Power
Plant, to seek help from the U.S. Department of Energy immediately. It also made the public more worried: whether
China's nuclear power technology is not yet mature enough to be used, thus was
unable to deal with the nuclear leakage crisis alone?
