The IFCSS Will Host the Commemoration of the June 4th Massacre in Front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC on June 1, 2024 and Calls for the 2024 Nomination of the "Spirit of Freedom Award"

April 28, 2024

The Council of the IFCSS (Independent Federation of the Chinese Students and Scholars, USA) has decided to host the commemoration of the June 4th Massacre for the 35th consecutive year on June 1, 2023 (Saturday) in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., to remember those who died during the 1989 Chinese democracy movement.  At the same time, the IFCSS will also present the 2024 IFCSS "Spirit of Freedom Award".  The IFCSS hereby announces and solicits nominations for candidates for the Spirit of Freedom Award from all walks of life.

The IFCSS invites people from all walks of life to participate in this year’s commemoration of the June 4th Massacre to express our condolences and meanwhile we hope that China will attain human rights and democracy as soon as possible.  The commemoration will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on June 1, 2024.  The address of the Chinese Embassy in the United States is: 3505 International Pl NW, Washington, DC 20008-3025.  There is free weekend parking on Van Ness St NW road next to the embassy, and a paid parking lot to the north.  The IFCSS welcomes people with lofty ideals to participate, and organizations that support democracy and freedom in China to co-sponsor this event.

The "Spirit of Freedom Award" was established by a resolution by the IFCSS Council in 2001.  Its purpose is to praise and commend the moral courage of Chinese people who defy autocratic terror, despise totalitarian violence, and call for freedom with their blood and lives.  The "Spirit of Freedom Award" is always open to nominations from all walks of life.  Nominees should reside in China.

Since 2001, when the "Spirit of Freedom Award" was first presented to Mr. Song Zhongqiu, who suffered from cancer and was at the end of his life, but revealed his heart and publicly quitted the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), the IFCSS has declared its "Spirit of Freedom Award" awardee(s) every year during its June 4th commemoration.  All sectors of society are welcome to actively participate in the nomination.  Please e-mail your nominations and introductions to: ifcss64@AOL.com or lawyerchchch@gmail.com; or postal mail to: IFCSS, P.O. Box 15449, Washington, DC 20003.
